Secret #4
Weights vs Cardio

As I lay out my four “self proclaimed” secrets to success, I must emphasize that it is a hierarchy! Secret number one is the most important, then number two, etc… Each concept must be in place and ingrained in your head before moving to the next step. Prioritizing and feeding your metabolism with balanced mini-meals is first, otherwise your strength training cannot produce gains or maintenance in muscle. With the first three secrets in place, it’s now time for the cardio!
Weights / strength training comes before cardio! This applies to prioritizing your whole training emphasis not to mention, which comes first in the workout. Your strength training is to maintain or gain muscle and metabolism. When you have a good strength base you will need to at least some kind of weight training to let your body know that you still require those strong and explosive strength fibers! Cardio training is very powerful! With everything else in place, this is where you get lean and mean! Careful! Your cardio can actually burn off your hard earned muscle and strength in two different ways. Check these out…

Oops, I lost my muscle...

Weight training should be a higher priority to practically all of us but that doesn’t mean dedicating more time! I’m fine with 20 minutes of weights and one hour of cardio! Cardiovascular training should not be dismissed or overlooked because I rank it fourth. Cardio is the fastest way to become healthier! Cardio benefits are huge! Cardio strengthens your heart and lungs, lowers your resting heart rate, lowers bad and raises good cholesterol… Oh, and it burns a lot of fat! A whole lot of fat! Cardio is indispensable!
